Do Not Turn Off Printer Power from a Power Strip – Here’s Why

When turning off your printer, always use the power button on your unit. Avoid powering off your unit by the switch on a surge protector or other power source. Using the power button on the printer will allow the print head to be properly sealed at the home position, preventing the ink cartridges from drying out.

I do this anyway, but frankly I did not know about this. Makes sense now that I think of it… we hear the printer make some interesting noises when you shut if off by the power button on the printer itself. When we cut the power from a power strip or surge protector, it just shuts down without the opportunity to do the ‘right thing’ it was programmed to do upon shut down.
